2019-09-16
Introduction Protein modification by ubiquitin and ubiquitin-like proteins is one of the most common and important regulatory mechanisms in biology (Finley et al., 2004, Pickart, 2004). Ubiquitination is carried out by an enzymatic cascade consisting of three steps. In the first step, ubiquitin i

2019-09-16
In addition to glutamatergic inputs, the RTn integrates cholinergic, serotonergic and noradrenergic synapses of fibers coming from nuclei located in the brainstem (Asanuma, 1992, Morrison and Foote, 1986, Pare et al., 1988) involved in the alternating firing mode and in the frequency changes of reti

2019-09-16
Does a universal mechanism for TLS exist? Our previous studies using the bacteriophage T4 DNA polymerase generated the model provided in Fig. 7 that quantifies the molecular forces influencing key steps in the polymerization pathway during the replication of a non-instructional versus miscoding DNA

Contributors Acknowledgements Introduction Pemphigus disorders are characterized by autoantibodies binding to desmosomes between epidermal cells, resulting in the loss of cell to cell adhesion and blister formation. In pemphigus foliaceus, autoantibodies predominantly bind to desmoglein 1,

Another interesting study was that by Kotyuk et al. (2015), who investigated the association between COMT rs4680 and personality in elderly people. The authors analysed the association between COMT rs4680 and NEO-FFI.

While we previously demonstrated that TraG is inhibited by specific transglycosylase inhibitors and that enzymatic activity is strongly reduced upon mutation of the potential catalytic core (Arends et al., 2013), the enzymatic mechanism of both domains was not assigned.

2019-09-03
Our finding that the ATRX-DAXX-H3.3 complex promotes a form of HR is likely to have important implications for our understanding of the ALT recombination process that takes place at telomeres. We were surprised to observe that ATRX promotes a form of HR, since loss of the ATRX-DAXX-H3.3 complex is necessary for generating the ALT phenotype (Lovejoy et al., 2012).

2019-09-02
In summary, the loss of seven Cyp3a genes lead to sexual dimorphic changes during the eight weeks of high fat diet treatment with Cyp3a-null female mice showing a healthier acclimation to a high fat diet through decreased weight gain, higher adiponectin, lower B-OHB levels, and a better response to glucose; while the Cyp3a-null males succumb to increased fatty liver including slightly increased weight, higher hepatic polar lipids and triglycerides, and greater liver weight. Overall, the changes in HFD-induced health parameters in females are consistent with other studies showing that compounds that inhibit Cyp3a or perturb Cyp3a-mediated fatty c-FMS inhibitor metabolism protect from obesity [74,93], and the increases in weight in males are moderate.

2019-08-30
Results and discussion A systematic search for genes encoding H+-PPases was carried out by PCR using genomic DNA from a wide range of protozoa as templates and degenerate oligonucleotides, designed from amino Capsaicin domains conserved in H+-PPases of higher plants and the proteobacterium R. rubrum, as primers.
